Urban Condo
It was high time for this two bedroom/2.5 bath condo to lose its full-on 1980s style and step into the 2020s. The project began with a near complete gut of the two levels that make up this unit. Demo was followed by replacing the windows and exterior doors, reconfiguring a staircase to the attic, and updating the floor structures.
Skilled craftsmen created the unique custom features utilized in putting this home back together. Custom cabinets throughout the unit were treated to a multi-step finishing process giving the surfaces a multi-dimensional appearance. Light boxes combined with natural light add an artistic touch to the stairwell and to the powder room thanks to opaque screens designed and produced by Milwaukee-based Scathain LLC.
Details often make a good remodel, great—details like a cooktop that is flush mounted into the heated granite countertop of the island. A coffee station that is concealed with a floor-to-ceiling cabinet door that retracts into a pocket. A sliding barn door that alternatively reveals the washer/dryer or the master bath. A glass guardrail at the edge of the living room protecting the staircase while maintaining the illusion of space. Top lift hinges on the upper cabinets in the kitchen and concealed invisible hinges on the glass display cabinets take the goal of functionality to a new level.
